Should congas be used in rock music?
I am a percussionist in a band that plays many styles of music. We play 80′s rock, alt. rock and spanish rock. The members all want me to play congas in all the numbers. I don’t feel right playing congas to “Gun and Roses”. Should I give in and play maybe create a new feel or just go with my gut and take that time to go have a beer and smoke.
I don’t personally thing congas are a perfect fit for every song, and probably shouldn’t be included in ALL the songs you do. But congas can make a nice addition to a rock song I think if done right. Also, have a beer and cigarette anyway. I am.
