Sorry to break the news, but “Classic Rock” is not a genre. Do you disagree?
Classic Rock refers to old music. Here are some bands that are said to be “Classic Rock”
Boston, Aerosmith, Queen, Journey, Cheap Trick, Heart, Foreigner – Arena Rock
Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Cream – Early British Metal
Rush, Pink Floyd, Khan, Van Der Graaf Generator, Yes – Progressive Rock
etc.
Sorry to break the news, but Classic Rock (or simply “Rock”) was, has been & always will be a genre. It refers to music which has stood the test of time & still continues to be popular today, as opposed to the tripe they release today which is forgotten in 3 weeks.
Many of these bands you listed above still tour & release new music (though mainstream radio won’t play anything new by classic rock bands). For example, AC/DC, Aerosmith & Kiss routinely outsell many of today’s rock bands when they go on tour.
