Should I study electric or classical guitar?

I’m 16 and I want to study guitar but I don’t know if I should study classical guitar or electric guitar. I’m not interested in acoustic guitar. Since I love rock music, most people tell me I should take up electric guitar but I plan to major in music (Voice major or music education major) in college and I’m worried that music conservatories might be more appreciative of the classical style. Although, I think that I would enjoy playing electric than classical guitar but if I need to study classical for the conservatory then I will.

What are the pros and cons of electric and classical guitar? And how long would it take me to be able to be a good player? (Good enough to play classical songs without messing up a lot?)

I have prior music training. I’m a classically trained mezzo-soprano for five years. I have a good ear and can do proficient sight-reading. I also know how to play piano. I guess my fingers have already developed some speed and strenght because of the piano.

I think classical all the way. I have an electric guitar that only sounds great when hooked up to a amp. I enjoy the sound, quality and accessibility of a classical guitar. I also believe it is easier to learn especially when it comes to learning the sound quality and pitches to become a better player.
