Questions about PUNK ROCK?
Relate punk music and censorship with some of today’s music? Is there any difference from then to now? How do we as a free and open society deal with artistic products that some find offensive? Are there limits to aritistic freedom?
Part 2.
Punk music is yet another music with message within the world of youth culture popular music. Why do you think punk faded and influenced other new musics? Do you think punk music is related to gansta rap of a decade later?
Simple: We censor the shit conservitive pricks dont want to hear, because its “offensive”. My question is.. To who? Most lyrics ARE NEVER singleing out one person.
When we typically think of rap or hip-hop (instinctively), we think of money, bitches, hoes, kush, etc. Punk however, we tend to think of Mohawks, studs, loud concerts, ya know the good stuff.
Now when we see these 2 genres, they are totally different, style wise and musically.
Back in the day, Punk was seen as a “Riot” waiting to happen in many teens, and a bad influence on teens. Parents wanted their kids to listen to the things they did, instead of these fast songs usually singing about Anarchy, Death,or sometimes just some sped up 50′s tunes.
Parents today dont think that rap delievers a nice message at all either.(At least most.) They feel like their kids will go out doing the same thing these rappers are doing, and the only way is to get famous.
Of course they’re plentyyy of reasons why parents didnt want their children listening to this music, but mostly because it brought/brings out the rebel in teenagers.
Punk died just like greasers, hippies, and even renaissance did. It was a trend.(Real punks didnt fit the mold though.) In my opinion.
