Punk rock is a dumb genre name.?
I love “punk” bands. But when they’re called that it’s SO irritating. What makes them “punk?” Rap could be called “punk” as well because it demonstrates what;s considered an anti-establishment or out-of-the-norm lifestyle. Punk is just a term used to describe a young trouble maker- kind of like the term “whippersnapper.” And let’s face it, “whippersnapper rock” sounds awesome.
I love “punk” music but hate the name. I just felt the random need to share that. I do not enjoy rap, I just hate the label “punk rock.” As well as the label “alternative.”

On another note, I mean 70s-80s, like Dead Kennedys, the Clash, New York Dolls, Dead Milkmen.
the phrase was coined on a late night talk show by some guy when describing the new music and the name just stuck.
