hip hop music producer

Should I enter a music major in college without any knowledge of music?
Since hip-hop music is so shitty these days, I have a passion to bring it back to it’s roots. I am aspired to be a hip hop producer. The problem is is that I have no knowledge of music. (treble and bass clef reading, major and minor key signatures and scales, and meter and rhythm.)
Is it a good idea for me to jump in?
This doesn’t sound like a great idea to me, and I started college as a music major. As a music major, you probably will spend little, if any, time dealing with hip hop, and will be spending most of your efforts on theory, history, etc., of more classical forms of music. If you currently have no knowledge of music, you don’t sound like someone who is likely to change the industry, and I’ve never heard of any form of music going back to its roots – usually things change over time.
