hip hop music news

Why do I dislike hip-hop music so much?
I’ve tried, I really have. It still sounds like noise. The monotonic chanting, often it’s practically yelling, grates and gives me a headache. When I was young, if the radio landed on a news or classical music channel I would change it in seconds. Now I have to leave the radio pinned to a news or classical music channel to have any hope of avoiding hearing hip-hop. Should I just kill myself already?
Thanks for the links, Aman. I’ll admit that the 2Pac “Dear Mama” didn’t make my ears bleed, but it still didn’t really work for me.
A thought: is the reason that rapping doesn’t use singing — you know, moving your voice up and down, holding some notes longer than others, etc. — is the reason that you can fit more words into the line when speaking or chanting than when singing? So more information can be put into a single rap piece? That would go a long way toward explaining to me why some people like it.
I want to reiterate what Chubbs has said…
Please listen to the REAL stuff before classifying the music as a whole. Believe me…TRUE hip-hop lovers are going to agree with you that most of the stuff out there now is just noise.

And although I do believe Tupac is one of the best rappers to have ever lay down a track, he comes off a bit strong for someone who doesn’t like hip-hop. “Dear Mama” is a great song, but it is not all of who he is.
Granted, you may not like the artists we’ve listed, and if you don’t, that’s ok, but just know that those are real hip-hop artists. And I agree with one of the other guys…you’re not going to relate to every genre. That’s just the way the world goes around.
Just give those guys a chance…
