Which of the following is more likely to save Hip Hop?

I just read this interesting article saying that those who refute hip hop complain that it often talks about violence and women and drugs, but any real hip hop fan knows a song like C.R.E.A.M. contains most of those things, but is one of the best hip hop songs ever.

So what is most likely to save hip hop from its current state of suck?

Is it artistic revolution with new ideas and good lyrical ability, or is it political and social consciousness in the music?

I’d like some opinions on the matter.

Thanks.

MY opinion on the matter is that there are an abundance of artists out there, as compared to years ago, when you had a couple handfuls to judge. The current hip-hop that is making it to the fore- front are the artists who are selling and making money. And normally since children who are the largest collective group buying up all of the albums in stores, the music is written so that a 12 year old could follow along. But that does not mean that artists who write to maintain lyrical depth aren’t around. They are there, they just aren’t in the front of the line and being blasted all over the radio and tv stations.
