She thinks I stll care?

Hi folks,

I am writing a novel about country music, and even though I myself am a big fan, I am not a musician. So I am sort of lacking a vocabulary with which to discuss making music.

So here’s today’s question – I am writing about somebody singing the classic song She Thinks I Still Care. You know the song:
Line 1: Just because I ask a friend about her
Line 2: Just because I spoke her name somewhere

When you sing it, there’s a big jump in something between the first and second lines, which makes it tricky to sing well.

What is that jump called? Is that from major to minor, or vice verse, etc?

Actually, while you very smart people are reading this and in the mood to respond, how to you characterize that little Hank Williams-y yodel that he puts into everything and that people still use hither and thither?

Any advice you can suggest will be extremely appreciated!!!

Thanks so much,
Eliza D.

This is your basic “3 chord progression”!!

Line 1: (G) Just because I (C) asked a friend about (G) her
Line 2: (G) Just because I (D) spoke her name some (G) where

and it is hard to put the vocal renditions of any said artist!!
(I remember this by George Jones, but many have recorded it,
Mickey Gilley comes to mind)

(and Modulation is moving your “Root Chord” (the chord that you started with, to another chord, up or down)
Example: G,C,D turns into A,D,E
