country music lists

Why do people always put “anything but country” on their favorite music lists?
I’m not a “Pop Country” fan at all. But to exclude the entire genre because of one of it’s facets seems unfair. I find it very funny that people get too scared (or just haven’t heard enough music) to put what they like, and instead play it safe by complaining about an entire genre. It’s like their saying, “I’m worried that people will realize that my taste sucks, so I’ll just say I hate country and we’ll immediately have something in common.” That’s not to say that there aren’t a ton of pop country fans, it’s the second most popular music in America after hip hop…what a time for music…
To the above answer: Try looking other places that Yahoo!s top 100.
Anyways. To answer the question: Alot of country music is too eerily upbeat or too god damn depressing for me to stand. Hence why I do not listen to bubblegum pop or emo music (most of the time). I actually put country on my list, but specifically Johnny Cash and some other country songs I enjoy (Save a horse, ride a cowboy!).
People who say “everything but country” are trying to make themselves seem cool, whether they’re trying to hide the fact that they listen to country music or no.
