any good country music bars in new york city nyc? going out with a few friends tomorrow night, any ideas?
hoping to get some insight into nyc…looking for a good country music bar to hang out and have a good time and hopefully see some pretty girls…(were in our mid 20′s) thanks
YES, there’s still a lot of country music in NYC. I have a yahoo group called NYC dive bars that specializes in nyc country music venues! You can find most of the bar reviews listed below on citysearch.com
The BEST country music bars in NYC are:
Doc Holidays (Avenue A & 9th St.) mostly all country, $3 drinks
Coyote Ugly (First Ave. & 9th St.) also plays some rock, $2 PBR
The Patriot Saloon (110 Chambers St. at Church St.) ALL COUNTRY, $2 PBR drinks
Others that are not as good:
Rodeo Bar (is also a restaurant and not a true dive, higher prices, and the music doesn’t start until 10pm)
Hogs And Heiffers (Washington St. near 13th St.) because they charge a $5 cover charge and also seem to play more oldies than country.
The Duck Bar (Second Ave. & 112th st.) – doesn’t attract a large crowd since it’s in a residential area, can be a little dull. This place needs more advertising since it has great potential, but does play all country.
Rudy’s Bar and Grill – 9th Ave. around 45th St. (has a big pig in the front). This place is ok, but doesn’t have ALL country, but does have a lot of country tunes on the jukebox amongst other genres of music.
Moonshine Bar – Columbia St. in Brooklyn (nice dive, but it’s very far out of the way in Brooklyn, far from any subway)
Coming soon: The Bear Bar 2…..will be a hard core honky tonk dive bar and will be located on Second Ave. at 92nd St. Should open by the end of March.
Also, I would like to add that Texas Tavern is NOT a country music bar Unfortunately, they play all different kinds of music unless something has changed since September. Any other questions, please feel free to e-mail me. I frequent these great places in NYC all the time.
