Now That’s What I Call Music is like a general mixtape of popular pop, R&B and general rock. Is there some sort of CD that can be purchased with a mix of general/popular alternative/indie music?

If not, what current “Now That’s What I Call Music” CDs out there would have the most alternative/indie music (doesn’t matter how recent it is)?

I don’t think there’s any commercial version of that, no. There is, however, a few people who make torrent playlists of indie songs which you can find on most of the torrent sites, and they make new ones every month.
Blalock’s Indie Rock playlists are probably my favorite.
